Stadttheater
Bern's city theater, the Stadttheaer (City Theatre) houses three stages for opera, ballet, and plays. Financed by a corporation, the neoklassizistische building was erected in the fall of 1903. Just a short time after its opening, the partners opted to sell the theatre to the city. To date, numerous talented and famous artists have performed at the theatre. More than 125 artists from 25 countries have appeared at the venue that employs approximately 250 employees at both part-time and full-time status. The Stadttheater presents 10 dramas, seven full-scale operas, and three contemporary dance pieces annually. It is considered Bern's busiest and most successful theatre.
