Franzosische Kirche
The Französische Kirche (French Church) is Bern's oldest church. The church, which was initially part of the Dominican monastery founded in 1269, has welcomed French-speaking Protestants of Bern since 1623. From 1685 to 1851, the church welcomed French Calvinist refugees fleeing persecution in France. An attractive Romanesque church, it is most notably know for its frescoed rood screen behind the church altar. Today, the church continues to hold regular services for Francophone Protestants of Bern. Visitors are welcome to attend. When visiting the church, some must see items include the church's original choir stalls from 1302 and of course the rood screen of 1495.
